This past weekend 2 members of the Honey Brook Fire Company attended classes at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. These classes were part of the Pennsylvania Weekend at the National Fire Academy. Each year a weekend is set aside for students from Pennsylvania to attend. The event started after an 1 1/2 hour trip with registration and assignment of dormitory rooms. An orientation was held in a large auditorium and students were then free to browse campus.
After class and dinner on Saturday a memorial service was held in honor of Pennsylvania firefighters killed in the line of duty since last years PA weekend. Those in attendance agreed it was a very moving and fitting ceremony.
Saturday evening a social was held in the Student Recreation Building and Command Post Pub. Here, firefighters socialized together and enjoyed games and contests.
Sunday, after class and checkout were completed all students were released to begin the trip home.
Thank you to Chief Barry Messner and Assistant Chief Bob Klinger, Jr. for taking the time to better yourself, the Honey Brook Fire Company, and the Fire Service in general.
