By EMS Division
July 31, 2014

Honey Brook Fire Company would like to congratulate 5 of our career and volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who recently graduated from 2 local Paramedic education programs.

These providers completed 1200-1500 hours of classroom training plus an additional 1500-2000 hours of internship and field training. Once licensed, they will also maintain specialty certifications, such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

On Friday, July 25th, EMS Lieutenant Lenny Brown and EMT Devon Carr graduated from the Reading School of Health Sciences Paramedic Program.

On Wednesday, July 30th, EMT's Grace Votta, Tina Rowley and Anna Dorczuk graduated from Good Fellowship EMS Training Institute's Paramedic Program.

Both programs prepare students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NRP) licensing exam, which is required to become a licensed paramedic in Pennsylvania. Devon and Lenny have both successfully completed their exams and are licensed.

The highest skilled pre-hospital provider is the Paramedic. Paramedics are licensed healthcare professionals who provide the most extensive pre-hospital advanced life support. Paramedics provide care that is on par with that of the emergency room. During a medical emergency Paramedics can provide advanced life support care including: advanced airway management, endotracheal intubation (breathing tube), manual defibrillation, external transcutaneous pacing, EKG monitoring, 12-lead EKG acquisition, IV fluid therapy, intraosseus infusions, hemodynamic monitoring, needle chest decompression, surgical airways, administration of a wide array of critical care medications and mechanical ventilation.

Congratulations to Tina, Grace, Lenny, Anna and Devon!
