Passing of Life Member Joseph W. Gable, Jr.

Joseph W. “Joe” Gable, Jr., 86 yrs, of Honey Brook, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at his home, while under the loving care of his family and hospice.

Joe was born on March 18, 1928 in Honey Brook. He was the son of the late Joseph W. Sr. and Bessie (Patton) Gable. Joe was the husband of Charlotte H. (Hackett) Gable, who died on Oct 4, 2010.

He was a graduate of the Honey Brook High School, Class of 1945. Joe proudly served his country during WW II in the US Navy. He was employed from 1949 to 1953 as a mechanic for El-Mor Chevrolet, and then from 1953 to 1954 as a service station attendant at the PA turnpike service station in Morgantown, then retired after 30 years as a mailman for the Honey Brook Post Office.

Joe was a member of the Honey Brook United Methodist Church. He started as a Jr. Fireman in 1942 with the Honey Brook Fire Company and served for 72 years with the fire company as a lifetime member. Joe was also a member of the former Honey Brook VFW Post and the Reading fly tying fishing club. He also enjoyed recording the local weather events, bowling with the Honey Brook Tuesday night league, fishing, hunting and gardening.

Surviving are a son, William Gable of Greentown, a daughter, Susan Gibble of Elverson, two brothers, James Gable of Seattle and M. Lewis Gable of Morgantown, and a sister, Catherine Deshong of Honey Brook. There are 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11 AM at the Honey Brook United Methodist Church, 4510 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, Pa., with Rev. Coleen Painter officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 11AM on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the memory of Joe to the Honey Brook United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 178, Honey Brook, Pa. 19344-0178 or the Honey Brook Fire Company, PO Box 408, Honey Brook, Pa. 19344-0408.
