By Fire Chief Robert Klinger, Jr.
November 24, 2015

At 0320 hours, Station 33 (Honey Brook), Station 49 (East Brandywine), Station 48 (Glen Moore), Rescue 69 (Twin Valley) and Ambulance 189 (Elverson-HB EMS) were dispatched to Brandywine Terrace Mobile Home Park in Honey Brook Township for a reported mobile home fire. Chief 33 and Engine 33-1 responded and was advised of multiple calls from residents reporting a trailer on fire, possibly extending into another trailer.

Chief 33 (Klinger) arrived shortly after responding at 0330 hours and confirmed the report of fire showing from a trailer and ordered the first arriving Engine Company to lay a supply line from the hydrant on Route 322, established Brandywine Terrace Command and request a response from the Chester County Fire Marshals and PP&L Electric. At approximately 0333 hours while performing a 360 degree survey of the incident the fire spread to a second trailer adjacent to the one on fire.

Engine 33-1 (Brooks) arrived after they were unable to locate the hydrant on Route 322 due to brush overgrown of the hydrant and deployed two hand-lines and began an aggressive suppression effort on the second building and then focused on the initial fire building. Engine 33-5 was able to locate the hydrant after some effort and laid a supply line into Engine 33-1 and it's crews deployed an additional hand-line into the original fire building. Mutual aid crews arrived and were assigned to one of the two buildings by Command. The fire in the second building was placed under control at 0337 hours and the original fire building was placed under control at 0347 hours. Crews remained on-scene and extinguished the small remaining areas of fire while the Chester County Fire Marshals conducting the investigation.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental and was caused by a wood stove which was placed to close to combustible materials. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family in need with shelter and clothing.

All units cleared the scene at 0536 hours.
