Early Morning Barn Fire
By Assistant Chief Dan Brooks
December 9, 2015
At 1:08am on December 3rd, the Honey Brook Fire Company was dispatched for an Engine and Pumper/Tanker to Chestnut Tree Road in West Nantmeal, Township assisting the Twin Valley Fire Department for a "Barn Fire". Engine 33-5 made the quick response with 6 volunteers, followed closely by Engine 33-1 with 6 Volunteers. Chief 69 responded and was advised of 911 calls reporting a small attached barn fully involved that was spreading to the main barn due to high winds. Chief 69 arrived and confirmed the entire large barn now fully involved, with multiple exposures. Engine 33-5 arrived first, stretching multiple hand lines to protect nearby exposures as well as work to stop the fire spread to an another attached portion of the barn. Engine 69-1 arrived and stretched lines to the bottom portion of the barn. Crews worked quickly to contain the bulk of the fire to the main portion of the barn and succeeded in saving the attached portion of the barn. Units operated for just over 12 hours total, returning to service shortly after 2pm that afternoon.
