Station Exhaust System Installed
By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Klinger, Jr.
August 19, 2011
The Honey Brook Fire Company is proud to announce that is has recently installed a vehicle exhaust system. This system was paid for by a Grant received from the Federal Government through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Process in 2010 for $92,500 to modify our station with an exhaust system.
The exhaust removal system captures the apparatus exhaust through the use of a drop down moveable hose that connect directly to each piece of apparatus housed in our buildings. The hoses stay attached while the apparatus is pulling out of the station until a predetermined spot where they then disconnect and swing out of the way. The exhaust is then taken through the hoses and pumped out of the building. The fire company had one exhaust drop installed in each apparatus bay for a total of 10. (8 in fire house 2 in ambulnace building)
In recent years studies have shown a direct link between firefighter cancer patients and long term exposure to diesel motor exhaust as a major cause. The new exhaust system helps protect our members by removing the exhaust gases from the building before they get into the air that we breathe.
